Like they had so many times during the season, the Tigers were forced to come from behind, trailing 10-0 early on. Led by fifth-year senior quarterback, Matt Flynn, the Tigers stormed back to score 31 unanswered points. Flynn torched one of college football’s best defenses for four touchdown passes, earning him the game’s Outstanding Offensive Player award.
After LSU tied the game at 10, the Buckeyes seemed poised to retake the lead. When the Buckeyes lined up for the potential go-ahead field goal, the game’s Outstanding Defensive Player, LSU lineman, Ricky Jean-Francois, stormed up the middle to block the kick and give the Tigers the momentum back. Moments later, LSU took the lead for good, claiming their second National Championship in five years and third in school history.
